So you’re marketing online and you don’t know where to begin. You want to build your business but you’re getting bombarded with emails and offers left and right. Sound familiar? Well, every online marketer has been there. One of the things that helped me early on was a webinar (or video, I don’t really remember :)) that I was on with Mike Dillard from Magnetic Sponsoring. In that webinar, he broke online marketing down to the basics and for some reason, what he said made a lot of sense to me.
At the end of the day, online marketing comes down to 3 things…
1. Build Your List
2. Build Relationships With Your List
3. Sell Stuff To Your List
That’s really it, if you really think about it. Yes, there are a lot of moving parts in online marketing. And there are a multitude of tools and software you can use to ‘automate’ some of the work. But at the end of the day, it boils down to those three things.
Now, here are some things you need to know…
– When it comes to building your list, you will have to learn how to drive traffic to your capture page. There’s a million ways to drive traffic. Pick ONE and become an expert at that ONE method. If you want to speed up the process, you can pay for traffic. If you have a budget, I would recommend picking ONE free traffic method and picking ONE paid traffic method. Why? Because while free traffic is awesome for branding yourself, it will take some time. So while you’re working on your articles, videos, blog, etc., you can have instant traffic coming to your capture page via Facebook PPC, Youtube PPC, List Builders, Solo Ads, etc.
– While you want to build the size of your list, it should be equally important to you to build relationships with your list. This will ensure that you are building a HIGHLY RESPONSIVE list of potential customers and distributors. If you have a ‘big’ list that isn’t responsive, then it will do you no good. So, how do you build relationships and a HIGHLY RESPONSIVE list? Just be cool to the people on your list… Give them stuff, provide training and value, produce training tutorials that you think will help them, etc. Also, email them often. Personally, I email my list once a day or every other day. I’m not really concerned about people who unsubscribe since I’d rather have them OFF my list. Sometimes it’s good to scrub your list of people who are just hanging out in there or people who are just tire-kickers. The people who I want on my list are people who WANT to hear from me and open my emails.
– When it comes to ‘selling stuff’ to your list, offer them relevant tools they can use to build their MLM business. Don’t push your primary MLM business right out of the gate, unless of course they specifically call you and ask for information on your primary MLM business.

Without getting too technical and complicated, that’s about it. If you want to build a strong foundation, internalize these basic marketing fundamentals. I’m a big believer that you can ‘build upon’ a strong base of sound fundamentals. But if you don’t have the fundamentals down, you will have a hard time putting things together and getting results.
