MLM Training – Three Reasons Why You Should Focus On Building Your List

On any given day, I’ll usually get a handful of calls from people who are interested in building their business online. One of the most common questions I get is: Do I have to really build a list? In most cases, people feel that list building isn’t that big of a deal or that it’s just another expense. In this article, I’ll give you 3 reasons why building your list will be beneficial to you and your business.

Obviously, you have to setup your sales funnel first, and then focus on driving traffic to your funnel. But for the purpose of this article, let’s focus on building your list. Here’s 3 reasons why you should build your list:

1. To automate most of the follow up process – Typically, when you’re driving traffic to your website, your visitors won’t buy or join you on the 1st exposure. Even if they’re interested, it usually takes 6-8 exposures until they feel comfortable enough to move forward. Well, if you’re getting a fair amount of traffic that are becoming leads, it will be very difficult try to follow up with every single lead by phone, much less trying to follow up with each one every couple of days to try to get them to take another look at what you’re offering. Even if you managed to do that (which I highly doubt), you won’t have time to do other things that will grow your business. And, let’s not forget your personal life. By building your list, and using a quality autoresponder, you can save a tremendous amount of time and aggravation.

2. To market relevant information products, software and tools – Let’s face it, not everyone will be interested in your opportunity. In fact, the vast majority of people who visit your website, and even join your list, won’t be. So should you just ignore that large group of people? No, you should monetize the people who have no interest in what your business is by marketing relevant products to them that they can use for their business. If you don’t build your own list, how can you do this? You can’t and you’ll be leaving hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars a month on the table.

3. To build a live asset that you can take with you wherever you go – While you never hope for anything negative to occur, as a business person, you should “hope for the best but plan for the worst”. What if something happens in your company that you don’t agree with? What if something happens that causes your company to decline, or worse? Of course, you don’t want anything to happen, but shouldn’t you be prepared if something does? By building your own list, you can create a security blanket if, God forbid, something happens to your opportunity and you have to go with another company.

Here’s a hypothetical example to show you what I mean by security blanket: Let’s say, over the next 3 years, you build a list of 15,000 people. Now, let’s say something occurs that causes you to pursue another opportunity. You can email your list to promote a webinar to launch your new business. If only 20% of your list, which is 3,000 people, open your email and only 10% of them, which is 300 people, attend your webinar. Assuming you have an attractive opportunity, you’ll probably get 20%, which is 60 people, to sign up. Of course, you can do better or worse than these numbers, but with one click of your mouse, you’ve personally enrolled 60 people in 24 hours and your new business is off to the races. Offline Marketers see this as impossible, but that is what can potentially happen online.

In closing, if you’re going to start building your business online, I encourage you to start building your list from day one. It’s a smart move, for your short and long term success. You’ll be glad you did.
