5 Keys To Climbing Out Of The Rut You’re In

There’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re stuck in a rut. In fact, writer Ellen Glasgow says that “the only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions”. The bottom line is if you let yourself stay in a rut for a long period of time, it could very well mean the slow death of your dreams and ambitions. And without dreams and ambitions, you won’t have the self-motivation needed to succeed in what you’re doing.

I think that one thing that you need to know that will actually help you cope with being in a rut is that EVERYONE at one point or another has felt like they were stuck in a rut. Every successful athlete, business person, celebrity and leader, has gone, or is going through, the same feelings you have. So just know that it’s not “just you”. The key however is that successful people are willing to do something about it…

So if you’re in a rut, or in a current situation that seems hopeless, here’s 5 keys I encourage you to follow so you can start the process of climbing out of it:

1. Accept Responsibility For Your Own Life – According to leadership expert, John C. Maxwell, it’s human nature to place blame for your circumstances on outside forces. It’s always someone else’s fault, that you’re in the situation you’re in. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending how you look at it, nothing can be further from the truth. Understand, that you are in the situation you’re in because of the choices YOU made over the last 3-5 years. It’s not easy to hear, I know… but it’s the truth. It takes a level of maturity to accept this, but once you do, you’ll have the POWER to change ANY situation you’re in, regardless how bad you think it may be. Keep in mind, just like the choices you’ve made in the past have gotten you where you are now, the choices you make NOW will determine where you’ll be in the future.

2. Know Where You Want To Be – The harsh reality is most people don’t have real goals, they have “weak hopes”. In order to succeed, you need to have specific goals that you need to write down. Writing down your goals will help you to define them, which is an extremely important part of goal setting. Without defining and getting specific with your goals, the liklihood of achieving them are slim to none.

3. Divide Your Goals Into Manageable Parts – One source of “paralysis” in most people is having goals with no realistic way of achieving them. So what do you do? Break them down into “mini-goals” that you can hit with focused effort. For example, you may have a goal to make $100,000 a year in your business. Obviously, this is not an easy goal or else EVERYONE would be making $100,000 a year, and it can certainly be intimidating to the average person. So instead of focusing on the “giant goal” of making $100,000 a year (your yearly goal), you need to break it down to what you need to do to make $8,333 a month, and then you need to break it down to what you need to do to make $2,083 a week. And if you really want to be anal about it, you can figure out what you need to do in your business to make $300 a day (which is $2,083 a week broken down into 7 days). Now you have a more “manageable” goal. Just put the focus on making $300 a day, and you’ll be on pace to make $100,000 a year.

SIDE NOTE: I know you may be thinking that making $300 a day is a daunting task, and of course there is work involved since you’re building a real business if you’re in a network marketing company. But remember, you should be getting paid not only on your personal efforts, but on all the efforts of your team. Personally, I make WAY MORE than $300 a day by leveraging MULTIPLE INCOME STREAMS like this one that pays me 100% Commissions, this one that pays me a sexy 40% Commission monthly, and this one that is set to pay me every 3 days like an out-of-control ATM spitting out cash! (and I do it all from home, working 2-3 hours a day)

4. Take Action Today – Once you’ve determined your specific goals and defined them, and you’ve broken them down into manageable parts, you’ve got to take ACTION. All the dreaming, hoping, and planning in the world, won’t do a darn thing for you if you never follow through, get off your butt and do something. So the question is: What can you do TODAY, RIGHT NOW that will start moving you out of your rut and towards your goals. Keep in mind, it doesn’t have to be a big step, it just needs to be a step in the right direction. So make that phone call you need to make, send an email out, shoot the video, make a small blog post, etc… JUST DO SOMETHING!

5. Grow Into Your Future – It’s important that you invest time every day to get better. This is where Personal Development comes in. Without Personal Development, you can very well get out of a rut today, only to get into another one tomorrow. But if you are constantly getting better and you’re continuously filling your mind with good information and positive thoughts, you’ll find yourself not getting stuck as much… at least, not for long.

So there you have it. If you’re currently in a rut and you’re willing to DO SOMETHING to get out of it, apply these 5 tips and I promise you’ll see positive results quickly.
