Chances are if you’re reading this, you’re a home based entrepreneur. More specifically, you’re a distributor for a Network Marketing company and you’re trying to get your business going. If that’s the case, look no further because in this post I’m going to lay out 5 powerful principles that can literally can explode your MLM business. The cool thing is that these principles can work for you regardless of what company you’re in, or regardless of what product you’re selling. So if you’re ready to receive the information, here we go…

Principle #1 – Run A System – It Will Save You From Yourself

It’s been said that the word SYSTEM is an acronym for Save Yourself Time, Energy and Money. And after 15 years in this Industry, I‘m here to tell you that having and working a system is critical to your success. Think about this for a minute: Every successful business has a working system. For example, let’s take a quick look at McDonald’s. McDonald’s is the biggest distributor of every product they sell. They are the biggest distributor of Coca-Cola, and they give away more Heinz ketchup than Heinz actually sells. They are the benchmark for what a successful franchise or business system is supposed to look like. And even they have a system. That’s why regardless of what country you’re in, if you step into a McDonald’s the drive-thru window is in the same place, the fryer is in the same place, and the cash registers all look the same. Heck, even the food taste the same. As a Network Marketer, you have to have a system as well. Chances are your company or upline already has a system in place. Assuming your company’s system is producing results, you have to embrace it, teach it and work it personally.

And while we’re on the topic of having a system, make it a priority that your business be SYSTEM-dependent and not PEOPLE-dependent. I personally know of marketers that are amazing on the mic and in front of the room. They can give an awesome presentation and are great motivators. They’re a one-man show and their business revolves around them. I also know of marketers that are pretty dry in front of the room. They don’t have the razzle-dazzle closing techniques and they’re not the greatest motivators. But they have a system in place and they teach it to every new person that joins their team…

Here’s the difference: If the one-man show, no-system, network marketer stops working, their whole business would collapse. Why? Because their business is dependent on them and their personal efforts. If the other marketer stops working however, their entire business is system-driven and their business would continue to work without them. Now of course, the ideal situation is to be a leader who can deliver a great presentation and close sales AND have a duplicatable system that people can follow. But personally, if I had to pick one, I would pick having a system all day long.

Principle #2 – You Must Lead By Example

Make no mistake about it, you can have the greatest system in the world but if you don’t lead by example and personally produce, you will go out of business. The most important thing you can do for your business is to stay in personal recruiting mode until you build 20-30 active legs. Now if you’re looking to just make $500/month part-time, you can probably do that selling your company’s products. But if you are looking to build a solid, high six-figure annual income, building a wide base of active legs is key. And the only way to do that is by staying in personal recruiting mode until you get it done. Remember, people will duplicate what they see you do, not what you say so if you want a team of producers, you must produce first!

Principle #3 – Be Aggressive About Your Business

Being aggressive doesn’t mean you have to be obnoxious. It also doesn’t mean you have to be rude to other people. But you have to be willing to ask the “hard” questions when you’re sharing your business.

Here’s what I mean by that… Let’s say you’re doing a presentation and you’re starting to wind down. There’s two ways you can close out. The first way is to be passive and make statements like “If you like what you saw, make sure you get some more information so you can get started.” and “What do you think? Do you want to try the product first?” The second way is ask direct questions like “Assuming everything made sense to you, do you see any reason why you wouldn’t get started TODAY?” or “It only takes $XXX to get started. Do you want to put that on a Visa or Mastercard?”

If you want to be broke, be passive with people, but if you want to make money, start being direct with people and asking the right questions. Being direct doesn’t mean you have to be a sleazy salesman. It simply means you are a professional and you’re looking to help them make a decision that would put them in a better position.

Principle #4 – Stumble Forward

If you’re looking to know everything about everything before you get your business started, you’re NEVER going to get started. The reality is the only two things you really need to learn in the beginning is how to pique someone’s interest and how to invite them to a presentation. Everything else, you can learn later. Don’t think that you have to know everything. Give yourself the freedom to stumble forward, and learn as you go. The key is to take action and move forward.

Principle #5 – Get A Mentor And Stay Coachable

Every top athlete has a coach. And every successful business person has a mentor. Coaches and mentors can help you hit your goals faster than if you were going it alone. They have experiences you can learn from and they can tell you about mistakes they made so you can avoid making them too.

They can also push you when you don’t feel like working. They’ll keep you accountable so you can hit your goals. Without accountability and a coach, it will take you 10X longer to hit your goals, and that’s if you hit them at all. Go get yourself a coach today because your business depends on it.
