Over the past 15 years, I’ve been blessed to be around some very successful people. And in that time, I’ve noticed that every successful person I studied and learned from had some very common traits. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll go over 5 of these traits. My hope is that you review them and start applying them to your business life. Make no mistake about it… Success does leave clues and if you’re smart enough to see those clues you can very well cut months (and even years) off of your learning curve.
Here Are 5 Things Successful People Do In No Particular Order:
#1. Successful People Know How To Focus – The most productive people around know how to say NO to the things that aren’t important, so they can say YES to the things that really matter. They make it a point to put their energy into tasks that will move them close to their goals. In contrast, unsuccessful people simply ‘go with the flow’. They get distracted easily and let days go by without moving closer to where they want to be. If you’re serious about success, make sure you focus, focus, focus.
#2. Work Hard – It’s been said that the harder you work, the luckier you get. And this is so true. There’s no substitute for hard work. Make no mistake about it… the success you seek won’t just fall in your lap. You have to do the work first. With that being said, I also believe in working smart. This is why I use the Internet. Leveraging technology can allow you to work smart, while you’re putting in the sweat equity and working hard.
#3. Become A Great Manager Of Your Time – No matter what you do, you’re never going to change the fact that you only have 24 hours in your day. It’s your responsibility to make sure that those 24 hours are used effectively and wisely. YOU HAVE TO BE PRODUCTIVE… not just busy. Unsuccessful people are busy but not productive. There’s a big difference.
#4. Add Tremendous Value – What can you share with people that will help them get closer to their goals? What are some experiences that you’ve had that can potentially help other people? When you add value to others and help them grow, you’ll position yourself to grow as well. Period.
#5. Build Strong Personal Relationships With People – People always love doing business with people they like, know and trust. So take the time to connect with people. Of course, as you get ‘bigger’ you may not be able to connect with every single person. But do your best to create quality relationships with people who you feel a connection with. For me, I try to get back to every person who reaches out to me even though it may take a little time. If after I get on the phone with them, they don’t seem to be open to hearing what I have to say, but only want to pitch me on something they’re trying to get me involved in, I may minimize the time I spend with them (see #3). But I do try to reach out first.
If you just apply 1 of these 5 tips, you can elevate your business and take yourself to a whole new level. Try to apply each tip slowly, one-by-one, over time. I guarantee you that you’ll see results.
