Here’s a ‘spin’ on setting goals for the New Year…

Mindset

So in exactly 8 hours and 25 minutes, 2012 will officially be here. And if you’re like most people, you’ve probably set some time already to set all your goals for next year. Personally, I have also and for the past 14 years since getting involved in this industry, I’ve always spent the last week of the year to reflect on what happened over the past year… and set some new goals to go after in the next year.

While it’s obvious that setting goals is a gazillion times better than not setting any at all, I’m doing something different this year that I’m excited about and I decided to share it with you.

Now, before I tell you what I’m doing… let me tell you ‘why’ I decided to do things differently this year. For 97% of the population, 30 days into the new year, they’ve already forgotten their goals and they’re back to just ‘going through the motions’. This is why gyms are packed in January and empty in February…

Now I know that’s NEVER happened to you… hehehe…

But I’m sure you know people that have done that.

Every single year, I have people who send me their goals. Some create some very elaborate charts. Some create videos. Some create very complicated documents that detail every little thing about each goal and their plan to achieve it. And then by February, they’re not following anything they put together and they’re back to saying ‘I’ll wait until next year and I’ll do it’.

So here’s what I’m personally doing and what I’m telling my coaching clients…

I’m going to set aside all those long drawn out goals that I want to accomplish over the next 12 months.

Instead…

I’m focusing in on having an explosive FIRST QUARTER. That’s it…

I’m not worried about what September or October is going to look like.

I’m focused on January, February and March. That’s it…

Here’s my thought process:

I can’t predict if I’m going to be 100% disciplined in October…

… But I KNOW I can be 100% disciplined and committed for just 90 days.

In fact, anyone can do anything for 90 days.

For example, I don’t know if I can blog daily from January 2012 to December 2012…

… But I know with everything in me that I can blog daily for the next 90 days.

I don’t know if I can stay 100% disciplined to my new diet and workout plan…

… But I know with everything in me that I can stay on it for the next 90 days.

I don’t know why, but for some reason…

Mentally, it’s easier to digest 90 days of focus (and get excited about it) than it is to try to digest 12 long drawn out months of grinding out hard work and discipline… yuck!

Here’s what’s cool:

If you ‘crush it’ in the first quarter and stay disciplined, you’ll develop the personal momentum to push through another 90 days, which is the second quarter of the year. And then you’ll be able to push through the 3rd quarter of the year… and finish strong in the fourth quarter.

Think about it…

All a year is is 4 X 90-day quarters. Have 4 awesome quarters, and you’ll have one bad ass year!

So the questions I’m going to pose for you are…

What are you gonna do and what are you’re goals for the next 90 days alone?

Do you have a 90 day goal for your business, health, savings, personal development and relationships?

This is the first year I’m setting my goals in this manner so stay tuned and come back to my blog often and I’ll tell you how it’s going…

… Between you and me, I know it’s gonna rock! :)

Why?

Because I’m gonna make it work because I’m just a bad ass, unstoppable MO-FO! 😉

You are too… and that’s why 2012 is gonna be YOUR year.

So be safe tonight…

And get ready.

It’s about to be on starting tomorrow.

… I’ll catch you later this week…

To Your Success,
